Commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Last Trams to run in Sydney to La Perouse Ride in the New LRV, an R Class Tram and a Vintage Bus and visit THE SYDNEY TRAMWAY MUSEUM

You are invited to come and join us for a unique day’s adventure commemorating the 60th anniversary of the last tram to run on Sydney’s electric tramway system. The last trams ran to Maroubra and La Perouse on the 25th February 1961.  Our tour will depart at 9.00am from the Sydney Bus Museum at Leichhardt in a vintage single deck bus of the type that were introduced for tram replacement. Passengers will also be picked up at the Railway Square Bus Stop at 9.30am before proceeding to Circular Quay where we will join the L3 light rail service to Kingsford that  now runs over a part of the original tramway route.

At Kingsford we will rejoin our bus to continue to Maroubra and the La Perouse terminus.

From here we will travel via the Botany Bay foreshore and over the Captain Cook Bridge to South Cronulla and  Shelly Beach Park. This location is where the terminal loop once existed for the Sutherland to Cronulla Steam Tramway. This line commenced operation 110 years ago on 12th June, 1911 and operated both passenger and freight services until 3rd August 1931. The freight service continued until 1932.

A lunch break will be taken at Cronulla Station before following, where possible, the route of the line to Sutherland.

An R Class Tram, similar to the type that operated the last tram, will be waiting at Sutherland to convey us to the Tramway Museum at Loftus. We will join in with the Museum’s Heritage Tram Day with the opportunity to ride in some of Sydney’s oldest Trams. The classes of trams expected to be running include the C, F, J, N, and O class travelling on the Sutherland and The Royal National Park Lines.

Inspect the static exhibits in the Museum featuring the recent restorations. Another recent acquisition is one of Sydney’s first Variotrams, No. 2107.

Our return trip will depart the Museum at 4.00pm travelling to Central via the Princes Highway, then on to the Leichhart Bus Museum.

Tour cost include Vintage Bus travel, Tramway Museum entry and tram rides. Tour Notes will be provided on the day. You will need to use your Opal card for travel on the LRV to Kingsford.

Covid 19 social distancing regulations will apply to all travel.
