June Long Weekend – A Two States Adventure

ANOTHER TWO STATE ADVENTURE TO ALBURY SEYMOUR and ECHUCA
A RAIL CRUISE in 621/721 and HERITAGE VR LOCOMOTIVE HAULED TRAIN
Paterson – Sydney – Moss Vale – Goulburn – Yass Junction – Harden – Cootamundra – Junee – Wagga Wagga – The Rock – Henty – Table Top – Culcairn – Albury – Wodonga –Wangaratta – Benalla – Seymour – Echuca – Albury – Cootamundra – Stockinbingal – Temora – Forbes -Parkes – Orange – Bathurst – Sydney – Paterson
With a days journey touring by luxury ROAD COACH into wine country following the closed North East Victorian Railway Line from
Wodonga to Cudgewa, returning via Corryong.

Take this opportunity to travel on our annual June long weekend Rail Cruise in The Rail Motor Society’s 621 / 721 restored rail cars to Albury and Seymour on a unique 5 day tour. Departing Sydney on Friday morning at about 7.00am our train will travel via the Metropolitan Goods Line from Meeks Road to Chullora and then via the Main Southern Freight Line to Macarthur. A light snack will be provided as we proceed south through Picton, Mittagong, Bowral and Moss Vale for a short stop to stretch the legs before continuing on through Goulburn, Yass Junction, Harden and Cootamundra for lunch in the Refreshment Room. Continue onto Junee to refuel our train before proceeding through Wagga Wagga, The Rock, Henty, Table Top and Culcairn to our destination, Albury.

Transfer by coach to our accommodation at the Commodore Motel for the next 3 nights. Enjoy a Happy Hour drink in the Bar before Dinner in the Dining Room.

Saturday 8th An early start this morning with breakfast at the motel before we transfer to Albury Station to join our train to continue across the Murray River into Victoria passing Wodonga, Wangaratta, Benalla and Euroa to Seymour. Our train is required at Seymour to meet the VR Broad Gauge train to Echuca at 9.00am. On arrival we will join our own heritage wooden compartment sitting car to be locomotive hauled to Echuca. We will have about 3 hours to spend looking around the town at our leisure. Options include a visit to the Echuca Steam Rally or to take a Paddle Wheeler cruise on the Murray River with a Pub lunch.

Our Victorian tourists will travel in 621/721 from Seymour to Yarrawonga and return. Our return from Echuca is expected at 6.30pm and we rejoin our train for a spirited return run to Albury and transfer to our Motel. A evening light snack will be provided during the journey.

Sunday 9th Again following Breakfast, join our coach for a day tour following the closed Victorian Branch Line to Cudgewa. Departing at 9.00am travel via Wodonga along the Murray Valley Highway following the shores of vLake Hume to Tallangatta for morning Tea. Continue through Bullioh, Koetong and Shelley following the former VR branch line, now a cycle trail, checking out the famous trestle bridges on the way to Cudgewa. Onto Corryong for a 2 course lunch at the Corryong Hotel. Learn about the famous legend of Jack Riley, believed to be the stockman in Banjo Patersons famous poem at the ‘Man From Snowy River Museum’. A winery visit for a taste of the region on our return journey that will take us through the towns of Tintaldra and Walwa passing the northern edge of Burrowa Pine Mountain National Park on our return to Albury.

This evening, we will have a short walk to the Commercial Club for a Smorgasbord Dinner.

Monday 10th This morning after breakfast say farewell to our Motel and transfer to Albury Station to start our return journey with a stop at Junee to refuel our train. Continuing northwards over the Bethungra spiral to Cootamundra and then the line to Stockinbingal and Temora for lunch at the Station Museum and restored Refreshment Room before proceeding via Forbes to Parkes for our last overnight stay.

Tuesday 11th Depart Parkes after breakfast travelling through Manildra to Orange and on to Bathurst for lunch at the Hotel Vic. Continue on to Sydney through Lithgow and the Blue Mountains for an expected arrival at Central at 7.00pm.

Accommodation in Albury for 3 nights at the Commodore Motel and in Parkes at the Park View Motel will be on a twin share, bed and breakfast with dinner on Friday and Monday nights. Single supplement will be available upon application. Hunter Region patrons may join the train en route to Sydney on Thursday 6th June 2019 on application. Own arrangements will be required for accommodation for Thursday night in Sydney.

Tour cost is all inclusive and covers all rail travel in NSW and Victoria, 4 nights Bed and Breakfast accommodation, lunches (except in Echuca), Dinner arrangements and light snacks where applicable, a day tour by luxury coach to Cudgewa and Corryong in North East Victoria, Wine Tasting, entry to venues with morning and afternoon teas whilst travelling on 621/721.

Tour Notes will be distributed on departure from Sydney. Items of a personal nature and drinks are at your own expense.
