Description
This new booklet follows on from last year’s The Big Engines, which covered the more powerful steam goods engines developed by the Australian railways during the Twentieth Century. The new booklet looks at the key Twentieth Century steam passenger locos of the New South Wales Government Railways, the Victorian Railways, the South Australian Railways, the Commonwealth Railways, the Western Australian Government Railways, the Midland Railways of Western Australia, the Queensland Government Railways, the Tasmanian Government Railways and the Emu Bay Railway.
The booklet is illustrated throughout with photos of models of the locos discussed in the text by many of Australia’s best modellers and authors. More than fifty modellers have contributed model photos to the booklet. The photos in the booklet cover a wide range of manufacturers and importers as well as outstanding scratchbuilt models.
Good locomotive modelling also depends on access to photos of prototype locos, so the second part of the booklet includes lists of key references for photos of the locos from each of the railways mentioned above, and provides extensive lists of where modellers can find prototype photos of favourite or specific locos in widely-available Australian railway books and magazines.
The new booklet is the largest to date of Ian’s publications, at 160 pages.
