Description
In this Mini Profile we take a look at the railway scene around Peterborough from 1975 to 1989. This was a very interesting period as it included the rundown of railway facilities, the town’s centenary, closure of the Quorn line and the broad gauge link to Adelaide. It also covers the rise of Steamtown as an operating tourist railway, the visit of well known steam locomotive Flying Scotsman, 3801 and the Bicentennial train, transfer of the railways to the Commonwealth and the Australian National Railways era.
