Description

This video examines Sydney’s manned suburban electric train fleet, excluding the ‘driverless’ Sydney Metro trains. The oldest are the K Sets, with 160 carriages built by A. Goninan & Co from 1981 to 1985, featuring stainless steel sides and reversible seating. From 1988 to 1995, 455 Tangara carriages were introduced, replacing older ‘red rattlers.’ The first 375 were T Sets for suburban use, and the last 80 were G Sets for interurban travel, later converted back to T Sets. The latest trains include 35 Millennium M Sets (2002–2005) and 102 Waratah A and B Sets (2011–2019). These newer trains feature AC traction, improved air conditioning, LED lighting, and advanced systems.

The video showcases all types in operation across Sydney’s electrified network.
