Description

Before her withdrawal from tour duties in 2008, 3801 boldly ventured where no C38 had gone before, namely the far Western outpost of Cobar, an outback tentacle of the NSW Railways. With her overhaul now well underway it will be a long time until such scenes are repeated.

Resplendent in temporary “Grey Nurse” paint, recalling the difficult times of her wartime birth, we join 3801 on an historic journey from Binnaway to Cobar, through Merrygoen, Nevertire and Nyngan. Highlights include pacing the “eighter” along the many straight sections, sailing through the big S-curve at Boppy Mountain, a spectacular sunset at Yenda Creek and a drought breaking arrival at Cobar, the first time visitor bringing the first rains of the season.

In the second part of the production we see 3801 in a new coat of her traditional green as we head west from Orange to a spectacular “blow down” at Wellington Bridge, framed by a full rainbow. We finish up with some cross country action in perfect Western light as we visit Wongarbon, Dubbo, Merrygoen, Elong Elong and Binnaway.

Duration 94 minutes. “
