Set against the stunning backdrop of Glacier National Park, Burlington Northern’s transcontinental mainline climbs the rugged Rocky Mountains. In the early 1990s, Pentrex captured the dramatic battle between trains and nature as long freight trains ascend the mountain pass.

From Whitefish, Montana, to east of Browning, witness trains navigating tunnels, winding along the middle fork of the Flathead River, and crossing high bridges. Watch as they struggle through forests of fall-colored aspen and larch, or battle winter storms. After passing snow sheds and cresting the summit, trains push on over Marias Pass, where desolate country and towering mountains dominate the landscape.
