Discover the story of EMD’s rare AC-Traction locomotive, a unique model between the SD70MAC and SD90MAC. Only 30 were built, all for Conrail, and they became a staple on the Boston Line, attracting railfans from across the country. These 5,000-horsepower giants were found throughout the Conrail system, but after CSX acquired Conrail in 1999, the SD80MACs were reassigned to CSX’s coal operations, marking the end of their time on the Boston Line.
