Illawarra Line Part 2 DVD – Explore the Southern Stretch of the Illawarra Main Line
Continue your rail journey along one of New South Wales’ most scenic and historically rich railway lines with Illawarra Line Part 2 (Otford to Nowra) from Trackside Videos. This engaging presentation follows on from Illawarra Line Part 1, which covered passenger operations from Sydney Central and freight movements from Meeks Road near Sydenham down to Otford.
In Illawarra Line Part 2, we travel further south from Otford to Nowra (Bomaderry), tracing the line’s deep heritage and diverse railway activity. The Illawarra Line first opened between Central and Otford (and beyond to Clifton) in 1888, with extensions completed from Clifton to Bombo in 1887 and Bombo to Nowra (Bomaderry) in 1893. Additional branches such as the Dunmore–Shellharbour Quarry line (1890), Coniston–Port Kembla line (1916), and Unanderra–Moss Vale line (1932) demonstrate the region’s long-standing importance to NSW rail operations.
This DVD showcases both passenger and freight operations on the ‘down’ and ‘up’ lines. Locomotive classes featured include 2200, 3100, 422, 442, 45, 48, 49, 80, 81, 82, 830, 86, DL, and L, in liveries from ARG, ATN Access, BHP, FreightCorp, Freight Rail, National Rail, Queensland National (ARG & Interail), and 3801 Ltd. Passenger rolling stock includes Tangara, Oscar, Endeavour, and Double Deck Suburban and Interurban trains from CityRail.
