Description
Werris Creek Part 2 explores rail operations in “The Creek” from 1993 to 2004, focusing on the Maintenance Centre, Goods Yard, Stations, South Box, Silos, The Gap, and the Old Binnaway Line.
As a central hub for rail lines extending north and west, Werris Creek developed large marshalling yards and maintenance facilities. While the layout has largely remained unchanged over the past 50 years—aside from the removal of the steam roundhouse and some sidings—the technical capabilities have significantly declined. Once a base for skilled tradesmen, it now functions mainly as a fuelling and storage facility, with repairs outsourced to contractors.
This decline reflects the downturn of Werris Creek township itself. In this presentation, you’ll see operators like ARG, Countrylink, Freight Australia, and Pacific National, along with locomotive classes such as CLP/F, G, GM, T, 31, 442, 48, 80, 81, and 82.
